Chapel Hill, NC, USA -- April 07, 2008 -- Quantum Leaps, LLC, a provider of lightweight, open source event-driven frameworks for embedded systems, made today the milestone release 4.0 of the Quantum Platform™ (QP) product line. QP is a very lightweight alternative to a real-time operating system (RTOS) that runs on most 8-, 16-, or 32-bit microprocessors, microcontrollers, or DSPs. QP provides the basic infrastructure for developing event-driven, real-time embedded applications based on concurrent UML state machines (statecharts) that communicate asynchronously by sending and receiving lightweight events. No big design automation tools are needed.
QP consists of a universal UML-compliant event processor (QEP), a portable real-time framework (QF), a tiny run-to-completion kernel (QK), and a software tracing system (QS). Current versions of QP include: QP/C™ and QP/C++™, which require about 4KB of code and a few hundred bytes of RAM, and the ultra-lightweight QP-nano™, which requires only 1-2KB of code and just several bytes of RAM.
QP can work with or without a traditional OS/RTOS. In the simplest configuration, QP runs on "bare metal" target, completely replacing a traditional RTOS. QP includes a simple non-preemptive scheduler and a fully preemptive kernel (QK).
QP/C and QP/C++ can also work with a traditional OS/RTOS to take advantage of existing device drivers, communication stacks, and other middleware. QP has been ported to Linux/BSD, Windows, VxWorks, uC/OS-II, and other popular OS/RTOS.
The latest release QP v4.0.00 is available for immediate download.
About Quantum Leaps, LLC
Quantum Leaps, LLC provides ultra-lightweight, open source, state-machine-based, event-driven frameworks for embedded systems in several industries, such as consumer electronics, wired and wireless telecommunications, industrial automation, transportation systems, aerospace/military applications, medical devices, and others. Our flagship product is Quantum Platform™ (QP) family of event-driven frameworks, which allow engineers combining multiple hierarchical state machines (UML statecharts) into concurrent, event-driven applications and supports direct implementing such applications in highly maintainable C or C++ without big tools. Quantum Leaps practices the innovative, dual-licensing business model, which combines the best of the open source and proprietary software worlds to make open source a safe choice for the embedded systems vendors. Along open source licenses we offer closed-source licensing and the accountability for the licensed Intellectual Property to all customers interested in retaining the proprietary character of their software.
